CA State Bar Approves Crackdown on Sexual Relations Between Lawyers, Clients

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The State Bar of California’s Board of Trustees have passed a long-awaited overhaul of attorney conduct standards.

It calls for subjecting lawyers who have sexual relationships with their clients to discipline.

Supporters say the relationship between lawyers and their clients is inherently unequal, and thus any sexual relationship can be coercive.

However, opponents claim it’s an unjust invasion of privacy.

The California Supreme Court now has the final say.
