FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The recent storms have brought much-needed relief and plenty of snow for the Golden State, following 5 years years of extreme drought conditions.
The abundance of snow has some resorts planning to be open on July 4th.
However, researchers at UCLA are warning that California’s days of plentiful snow, full reservoirs, and lush greenery won’t last forever.
Rising carbon emissions threaten to dangerously increase temperatures in the Sierra Nevada, and drastically reduce the amount of snow.
Experts say that could lead to a devastating decrease in water resources, one-third of which come from the Sierra snowpack.
