(KMJ) Gun violence in the south valley ends in a family nightmare.
Bakersfield police say a 5-year-old child was shot and killed – and a 7-year old wounded – in a drive-by shooting Thursday night.
Police Chief Lyle Martin told local media at the scene of the crime “These types of acts of violence and cowardice will not be tolerated. This community deserves much more than this.”
The 7 year old was shot in the leg and is expected to survive.
BPD says someone, possibly in a dark colored sedan, fired into the vehicle in which the children were traveling along California Avenue around 7:45pm Thursday. No suspects have been identified.
“We’ll leave no stone unturned,” the Chief said.
