Because of the prolonged drought conditions, the Sierra National Forest is reminding all residents that fire danger remains above average across the Central Sierras and the chance of large or damaging fires exists.
Recent wetting rains provided only temporary relief from the danger of wildfire. With the return of dry weather and increasing temperatures dangerous conditions have returned.
California lends itself to severe wildfire conditions year round with its unique climate and topography. With your help the foothill and mountain communities will have “One Less Spark – One Less Wildfire.”
Here are some safety tips from the Sierra National Forest:
– Do all yard maintenance that requires a gas or electric motor before 10 a.m. Rocks hidden in grass or weeds can spark a wildfire.
– Use spark arresters in wildland areas on all portable gasoline-powered equipment.
Hot exhaust pipes and mufflers can start a fire that you won’t even see before it is too late!
– Don’t pull off into the dry grass or brush.
– Don’t let chains drag. Dragging chains will throw sparks.
– And – Plan for emergencies and evacuations.
