Calif. Health Exchange Sees Surge in Enrollment

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Covered California says more than 412,000 new customers signed up for health insurance, during the latest enrollment period.

Almost 50,000 applied in the final two days.

37 percent of enrollees are in the coveted 18-34 demographic.

The exchange hopes the improved mix of young and older consumers will help regulate premiums.

A survey among potential customers found that while there’s noticeable political uncertainty surrounding the Affordable Care Act and state exchanges, it didn’t substantially affect enrollment.
