BBB Issues Warning About New Phone Scam

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — It’s been dubbed the “Can you hear me?” scam.

The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning: If you get a call from a number you don’t recognize, and the person asks if you can hear them, don’t reply and hang up the phone.

Answering “yes” could allow the fraudsters to make unauthorized charges on your phone bill, as providers pass on the third-party charges.

While the best option to hang up on potential scammers, disputes for credit card charges can be taken to the FTC, and phone bill disputes can be submitted the FCC.
