Biomass Bill Moves Forward in Sacramento

So far so good for a state bill that would help biomass power plants continue operating.

South Valley Assembly member Rudy Salas co-authored the bill AB 590, a bill that cleared the Senate Energy Committee this week.

Salas thinks not only is the biomass bill is good for the environment, but also for jobs.

AB 590 would make use of the state’s greenhouse gas reduction fund revenue to help pay for the cost of operating these plants in California.

Salas says one such plant in Delano, has helped reduce 96% of the pollutants released from open-field burning while converting over 300,000 tons of agricultural waste per year into clean, renewable energy.
