Gallup: Respect for Police Officers Approaches National Record

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 76 percent of Americans now say they have a “great deal” of respect, for the police officers who serve their community.

According to the latest Gallup poll, that’s a 12 percent increase compared to the figure from last year.

Gallup has asked Americans for their opinion on law enforcement 9 times, since 1965.

The largest percentage of support was 77 percent, in 1967.

The poll also found that respect levels tend to be higher among older citizens, and those who identify as Republicans.
