Tulare Standoff Ends After Suspect Shoots Himself

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Tulare County authorities surrounded a home on Hillman and Hillcrest around 2:30 Thursday morning, in pursuit of 37-year-old Larry Zamora, who allegedly shot a 39-year-old woman and her 9-month-old daughter, after an argument.

Sheriff Mike Boudreax says Zamora barricaded himself in the house, the occupants of which he knew.

Several shots were fired, but after the silence, Boudreax says, “We sent in the robot, not suspecting that he had died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. But, as the robot entered, we saw that was case.”

During the incident, a Tulare PD officer was struck by a bullet, although he was wearing a helmet.

“That Kevlar helmet, frankly, has saved his life,” Boudreax says.

The officer is now recovering at home. The woman and her infant remain in critical condition.
