Fresno Woman Throwing Rocks Injures 9th Grade Student

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A woman lands in jail this afternoon for throwing rocks at a school in Central Fresno hitting one student in the head.

Judith Vela was arrested Wednesday October 12th for felony assault with a deadly weapon for throwing chunks of asphalt at a 9th grader at Duncan Polytechnical High School.

The 25 year old told police the kids made fun of her on a number of ocassions.

“Her story is when she walked by the school, the children make fun of her, (they) made fun of her today – so she started grabbing chunks of asphalt from the roadway that’s when she struck the 9th grader in the head.” – Fresno Police Lt. Joe Gomez.

Teachers at Duncan Polytechnical School on Garland and Cedar where the incident took place — heard the commotion.

The PE teacher ran over to where she was and was almost by a rock – he ducked – and it hit a car.

Vela tried to evade police but was caught and brought to jail.

The injured ninth grader was treated at the school by EMS and released to her parents.
