FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California DMV has released reports about 6 accidents, involving self-driving car prototypes being tested on public roads.
But the release only came, after the AP successfully convinced the department, that it was improperly withholding information.
According to the documents, the cars were in self-driving mode when the collisions occurred, but the other drivers are said to have been at fault.
Neither the responsible parties, nor the Google researchers testing the new technology, had to be treated for injuries.
Self-driving cars have been in California since 2009, but it was only last September, that the DMV officially began permitting testing, and mandating that companies submit accident data.
