House Leaders Considering Standalone TPA Bill

While House Speaker John Boehner can bring up the current Trade Package before July 30th, the Hill reports GOP leadership in the House is also considering a standalone Trade Promotion Authority bill.

That would send the bill back to the Senate, if passed.

A standalone bill could come up as early as this week in the U.S. House.

It would appear that if the bill would make it through the House, passage in the Senate would stand a dismal chance.

The Senate sent the Trade package that included TPA and TAA to the House last month.

House leadership told the Hill that if the House would pass a standalone TPA bill β€œIt would then require the Senate to figure out what to do with TAA later.”

The House failed to pass TAA, but passed TPA last week.
