Study Highlights Potential Benefits of Staying in Bed Longer

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Staying in bed a little longer could help in avoiding sickness.

According to University of Cambridge researchers, viruses appear to be 10 times more dangerous if you’re infected in the morning.

Mice infected with either influenza or herpes in the morning had 10 times higher viral levels, compared to those infected in the evening.

Experts say the study indicates that the ability of viruses to hijack cells varies by time of day.

Essentially, a virus infecting a person in the evening is similar to trying to hijack a factory, after everyone’s gone home.

They believe encouraging people to stay in bed during the day, could save lives during a pandemic.
