FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 182,000 teens found work for the summer in May, down from 217,000 a year earlier, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That’s the lowest gain seen since 2012, but outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas, says the May figure isn’t necessarily an accurate indicator of the overall summer job market.
Strong gains in May of 2013 and 2014, where followed by less growth in June and July.
Additionally, more people in their 20s are finding better jobs, and that is expected to create opportunities for younger job seekers.
