Calif. DWR Releases Biological Assessment for Twin Tunnels Plan

KMJ) — The California Department of Water Resources is disseminating a biological assessment, for Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed twin tunnels.

The $15.5 billion plan calls for two 30-mile tunnels, to bring fresh water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, to the Central Valley and down to Southern California.

Critics are questioning the environmental impacts, but according to this new assessment, the project would have minimal affects on endangered fish, whose populations have declined significantly.

State leaders are hoping for a decision from the feds before President Obama leaves office, as the process would virtually have to be repeated, with a new administration.
