FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Fair Political Practices Commission levied the fine against former San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed back in 2013, after concluding that his pension reform committee illegally $100,000 to another group.

However, the commission believed it acted unintentionally, so the primarily symbolic penalty totaled a mere $1.

Reed filed an appeal and won, which allowed him to negotiate a settlement.

The FPPC has now agreed to pay his attorney fees, which cost far more than $1, at $106,173.50.
