FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – California Animal Control is spending the next seven weeks working for Fresno County while officials transition from a bankrupt service provider.
Liberty Animal Control Services filed for bankruptcy Friday. County director of public health David Pomaville says the city put out a request for bids May 19 in preparation for Liberty’s contract ending in September. Companies have until June 23 to submit bids.
The temporary contractor’s partner operates California Animal Control. County Supervisor Henry R. Perea says this won’t affect the company’s ability to provide animal control services.
Fresno’s board of supervisors is considering acquiring 1.3 acres of land near its animal control facilities. That could be the site of an 8,000-square-foot shelter and administration building the county set aside $2 million to build.
