(KMJ) Alexander Rossi won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. It was an improbable run for the rookie driver from Nevada City, California. The victory at the Brickyard was also his first win in the IndyCar Series. Rossi spent most of his early professional driving years in Europe.
“I have no idea how we pulled that off. It was unbelievable strategy,” an elated Rossi told the buzzing crowd referring to the economical (slower) run in the final laps to save fuel. “I’m at a loss for words” he said moments after exiting his blue and yellow #98 Honda race car.
Carlos Munoz finished second and Josef Newgarden was third.
