FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Hamburgers are everywhere, from quick lunches, to summer barbeques.

But, something you probably don’t anticipate in your patty: rat or human DNA.

A recent study conducted by the California-based Clear Labs involved ground meat, veggie burgers, frozen patties, and fast food burger products.

3 of the products contained rat DNA, and one contained human DNA.

However, researchers say while that may sound gross, it’s not surprising.

The FDA has set allowable limits for rat pellets in certain food ingredients, because it’s impossible to remove all traces of rat DNA.

They say it’s more of an aesthetic concern than a human health issue.
