Fresno Building Healthy Communities Opens New Skate Park

FRESNO (KMJ) – Rippers, grab your boards – an old skate park in Central Fresno is revealing its new look.

Fresno Building Healthy Communities is to thank for the new skate park at Romain Park, and was celebrating the grand opening with a community celebration and ceremonial ribbon cutting on Thursday, May 5th.

“From our standpoint, from what we’ve heard time and time again, from residents in the areas, is there is a need for more recreational opportunities from young people, so really this is is a culmination of hearing those voices for the past five years and making a commitment.”- Sandra Celedon-Castro, Hub Manager, Fresno Building Healthy Communities.

The group Building Healthy Communities donated all of the money for the refurbishments – $250,000 – and broke ground in January.

Zach Wormhoudt, the Lead Landscape Architect Designer, California Skateparks brainstormed with a couple hundred young skaters to envision the new park.

Rusty ramps gone – brightly colored, state-of-the-art ledges, banks, and rails in, the new 15,000 square foot skate park is being donated to the City of Fresno.
