FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Governor Jerry Brown has signed a series of bills, just hours before the deadline, to raise the legal age for smoking, dipping, chewing, and vaping to 21.

They’ll go into effect on June 9th.

Vaping products will also be regulated like traditional tobacco products.

Tobacco companies have threatened to spend millions of dollars on campaigns to defeat the laws.

Opponents would need to collect nearly 366,000 valid signatures, to ask voters to reject the laws in November.

Brown did veto one of the 6 bills sent to him, which would have allowed counties to raise tobacco taxes.
