FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — As the Golden State moves closer to a decision on recreational marijuana, a new bill would expand a law that permits landlords to prohibit tobacco use on their rental properties.

The measure would allow landlords to bar tenants from using marijuana.

It’s cleared the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and is now off to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Democratic Assemblyman Jim Wood, the proposal’s author, says secondhand smoke easily travels, and is “a nuisance” with which tenants shouldn’t have to live.
