(KMJ) – For the second time in 2016, a Correctional Officer is attacked by an inmate inside the Fresno County Jail.
On Saturday April 23rd around 4:00 pm, a Fresno County Sheriff’s correctional officer was conducting routine cell checks inside one of the jail’s pods. Once the correctional turned to leave through a door, 27-year inmate Daniel Telles attacked him.
Deputies say Telles used a jail made weapon to stab the officer behind his left ear. That Officer was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. His injury did not require stitches and he has since been released from the hospital.
Telles was arrested on February 27, 2016 for several felony charges, including: Felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, drug possession and possession of stolen property. He has been an inmate of the Fresno County Jail numerous times dating back to 2006.
Telles remains in the Fresno County Jail and awaits a hearing on his new charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon in jail.
This is the second attack of a guard inside the Fresno County Jail this year. Another inmate attacked and stabbed a Correctional Officer back on March 19th.
