Dog Rescue Shelter Responds To Criticism Over Sanger Move

FRESNO (KMJ) — A group which dedicates itself to rescuing bully breed dogs is being criticized for choosing a site to relocate to – close to where other people live.

Fresno Bully Rescue is moving from its current location west of Highway 99 on Herndon Avenue, which is north-west of Fresno, to Nelson Avenue north of Sanger.

But their choice in location has gotten some locals angry, with suggestions that the dogs themselves could be dangerous and shouldn’t be around children.

“We wanted to ensure that we were moving to the proper zoned area”, says the group’s Director Bridgette Booth, who adds that they did everything they had to do with the county before purchasing the land.

“We own that property and we did everything right with the county. We have just as much right to be there are anyone else would be. We can’t tell what other people can do on their property and we can’t tell other people what to do on their property – and they can’t tell us what to do on ours”.

She considers it sad and frustrating when they get discriminated against for what they simply stand for.

“Fresno Bully Rescue has an awesome track record. We’re not a new startup business, we’ve been around for a long time. We’ve served this community in such a positive way”.

She states that they’ve tried reaching out to the locals who are concerned about safety with the dogs being close by, but to no avail. The current plan is to have a similar operation outside Sanger, as they do outside Fresno.

“We’re not looking for quantity, we’re looking for quality. So we always house around 35 dogs at our current location and it’ll be the exact same…just with better accommodations”.

The group are still campaigning for more donations to help fund the move to Sanger’s Nelson Avenue. Although the land has been purchased, more work still needs to be done to make the area livable for the dogs. To donate to the cause, the link can be found clicking here.
