VISALIA (KMJ) — The only emergency shelter in Visalia, is under new leadership.
The faith based Visalia Rescue Mission served 105,961 meals last year, and provided shelter to 541 men, women, and children in need. They have recently announced their new Executive Director, who states that one of his first tasks is to finish the jobs already in progress.
“Caring for different sectors of the society”, says Al Oliver. “We know that we want to do do something for teenage boys, we want to do more for women and children.
“We want to involve ourselves in what’s known as respite care where the homeless population may be discharged from the hospital but they have no place to go to recover”.
But Oliver adds that they need the public’s help to make that so.
“We don’t accept government funds”, he continues. “We do that intentionally because we believe that this critical component has to do with spiritual life and of course the government prohibits that and so as a result we don’t accept any government funds”.
They’re asking for donations from the public to help keep themselves active, and a link to do so can be found clicking here.
