PG&E Awards California State University, Fresno Student $20,000 Annual Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies

19 year old Bryan Wood is one of 10 Northern and Central California students who will receive a Bright Minds scholarship.

“By awarding scholarships to accomplished students like Bryan, we are helping them reach their full potential tomorrow,” – Raj Beasla, Central Valley Corporate Affairs Director, PG&E.

“We wish Bryan continued success in his engineering studies at Fresno State and hope that he will one day consider a career with PG&E.”

The PG&E Bright Minds scholarships are awarded based on a combined demonstration of community leadership, personal triumph, financial need and academic achievement.

In his application Bryan wrote about his unique educational plan, which included skipping the first grade and transitioning to home schooling in the sixth grade as his family worked to help his brother overcome learning disabilities.

“I began college courses at 14, and became a full-time college student at 16,” Bryan wrote. “Missing first grade caused a gap in my writing education that led to years of struggles. These challenges have made me stronger, and I have learned to work hard, persevere and stay on task.”

President Joseph Castro said he hopes that Bryan will stay in Fresno and contribute his talents to the community.
