FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Valley Congressman Jim Costa says he has helped secure millions of dollars in federal funding for some local Head Start programs.
Fresno and Tulare Counties will receive more than $35 million from the US Department of Health and Human Services.
The Democrat says the grants will support ongoing programs that help prepare little ones from underserved communities for Kindergarten.
Money will also go toward classroom improvements, staffing, health screenings and nutrition assistance.
The funding comes on the heels of a new lawsuit filed this week by the state of California against the Trump Administration.
Anyone applying for public programs, such as Head Start, is now required to verify immigration status.
