LEMOORE, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Two kids have been arrested for arson after starting several spot fires that forced Highway 198 to close Tuesday evening.
Officers say around 4 p.m. Tuesday, detectives saw two children enter an empty field near Champion and Larish streets.
That’s when the pair set off a legal firework, which officials say started a brush fire.
That fire then spread to several areas across Lemoore. including two structures and a semi-truck hauling hay.
Police could not confirm if anyone was injured in the fires.
The fires forced eastbound traffic on Highway 198 to be diverted off at exit 81.
The two minors have been arrested and booked into the Kings County Juvenile Detention Center.
Highway 198 has since reopened.
