TULARE CO. (KMJ) Samuel Camposeco was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years to life in prison for the attempted murder of a police officer while robbing a gas station.
The gang member and his cohort, Luis Vargas, opened fire on an officer who happened to stop at the Texaco in Dinuba at the time of the robbery.
An off-duty officer was also there at the time and opened fire at the criminals to stop them from assaulting the clerk.
The suspects fled the store as the gun battle ensued. Vargas was shot several times during the pursuit and died of his injuries.
Camposeco managed to escape and was on the lam for a month before he found and arrested in Exeter.
