FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) – The Fresno City Council has voted to pass the city’s final budget for the next fiscal year.

The budget vote comes after a week of budget hearings earlier this month and a vote on budget motions last Tuesday.

Mayor Jerry Dyer first introduced his plan for a $2.36 billion budget last month.

Every department, with the exception of the city council and the fire department, was being asked to cut five percent in order to help close the more than $20 million deficit.

This year’s budget, totaling approximately $2.36 billion, received unanimous approval from the Council.

“Even in the face of financial challenges, we’ve delivered a budget that is both balanced and responsive to our community’s needs,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “With a clear vision, creative solutions, and bold goals, I’m confident that Fresno is on a promising path forward. I deeply appreciate the dedication of every council member, department director, and staff member who contributed countless hours to this process.”

The FY26 budget was approved on Tuesday after comments from the public and councilmembers.

“Despite these challenging times, this City Council continues to make historic investments in all of Fresno’s neighborhoods through new parks and safer streets,” said Council President Mike Karbassi. “I am proud that we continue to fully fund our Police and Fire Departments to continue reducing violent crimes and ensuring that when Fresno’s residents call 9-1-1, they get a quick and professional response.”
