FRESNO, CA (KMJ) Annalisa Perea is attempting to follow in her big brother’s footsteps by winning a seat in the California Assembly.
The Fresno City Councilmember announced her bid for the 31st Assembly district seat on Wednesday. That position is currently held by Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) who has set his sights on landing a spot on the Fresno City Council when he terms out in 2026.

Her brother, Henry T. Perea, served in the Assembly from 2010-2015. He stepped down before his term ended to become a lobbyist for Chevron.
Local social justice advocate Sandra Celedon and retiree Jim Polsgrove are also reportedly running for the position.
In a release Perea said: “I’m proud to already have the support of some of the Central Valley’s most respected leaders—Senator Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria. Their early endorsement sends a powerful message: our current leaders believe in the work we’ve started together and trust me to keep fighting for our communities at the State Capitol.
On the Fresno City Council, I’ve worked hard to bring people together and deliver real results—like cutting violent crime in half, expanding affordable housing, securing funding for new police officers and firefighters, and helping reduce homelessness. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s still so much more work to do.
In the Assembly, I’ll stay focused on the issues that matter most to working families—fighting rising costs, supporting good-paying jobs, investing in public safety, and protecting access to healthcare.”
