
VISALIA, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Thousands gathered to protest immigration policies and ICE raids in California.
In Fresno, on Sunday, protestors lined the sidewalks along Blackstone and Nees, with signs that read” Keep Families Together,” and “Don’t Deport My Grandpa.”
Dozens gathered at the corner of Caldwell Avenue and Mooney Boulevard in Visalia Sunday with signs, flags and horns.
This was organized in response to recent ICE raids.
The protesters say they wanted to support the Mexican immigration community.
They also hoped to get their message across to Washington D.C. to pass immigration reform.
On Monday, businesses observed “A Day Without Immigrants” to signify the numberr of immigrants involved in commerce in the United States.
KMJ’s News Partner ABC 30 and reporter Christina Lopez was at one demonstration in Sanger, which brought as many as 100 people to stand in solidarity with immigrants on the corner of 5th St. and Academy Ave.
Meanwhile, thousands of protesters shut down the 101 freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, in a “protest against deportations.”
Video from the scene showed the protesters waving Mexican and Central American flags while chanting “si se puede.”
