Pro-Palestinian protestors remain on UC Merced campus ahead of Regents meeting

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) — The UC Board of Regents is set to meet at UC Merced.

That’s where pro-Palestinian protesters have set up an encampment ahead of the meeting.

The encampment is set up in the amphitheater area on campus.

Signs and tents have been set up since Sunday.

Some of the protestors told Action News they want UC Merced to know they’re paying attention to what the university is choosing to spend money on, and they would like to see some changes.

This protest is one of many that has been happening across the country on dozens of college and university campuses , all in response to the war between Israel and Hamas.

Pro-Palestinian protesters have essentially been asking universities and colleges to be transparent about their investments and to divest from companies doing business with Israel.

At UC Merced, the students demand their tuition money be used to support more housing and students facing food insecurity.

They also believe funds should be used to support Palestinians, but not everyone agrees with their demands.

UC Board of Regents will meet from Tuesday through Thursday.
