Fresno Unified Board Holding Special Meeting Amid Search For New Superintendent

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Fresno Unified’s Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting Wednesday morning to discuss their search for a new superintendent.

The board sent out a notice that the meeting would be held in closed session.

Right now, the board is in the middle of a hiring process to replace Bob Nelson.

The board said it will consider external candidates and explore options for a new firm to conduct the search.

The community will also be able to continue giving their input, although so far, no timeline has been announced for future community meetings.

Board members say they are committed to finding the best candidate.

“This is a game-changing opportunity for our community to have a superintendent who is the most qualified and the most effective,” says Fresno Unified Board President Susan Wittrup. “Our kids are struggling.”

Earlier this year, the board announced if Bob Nelson’s replacement is not found by August 1, Deputy Superintendent Misty Her could take over in a temporary role.

Nelson is expected to leave his position in July to take a new job with Fresno State.

The meeting is expected to begin at 9:30 am .
