MADERA, Calif. (KFSN/KMJ) — A registered sex offender is in custody accused of carjacking, kidnapping and raping a woman in Madera.
Police say 54-year-old Otis McKinzy was arrested Wednesday night by Elk Grove Police.
The carjacking happened near Yosemite and L Street at about 1 pm Wednesday.
The victim was a woman in her 50’s and was forced to drive with McKinzy from Madera to Modesto.
Detectives say McKinzy did not know the victim. He is a transient who appears to have been living out of his car in Madera near the victim’s home.
According to Madera investigators McKinzy sexually assaulted the victim during the incident. The victim was able to escape from the vehicle and seek help in Modesto.
McKinzy, who recently registered as a sex offender in Madera, then fled in the victim’s vehicle triggering a large law enforcement search. He was found and arrested by the Elk Grove Police Department at 11:00 PM Wednesday evening.
Otis was booked at the Madera County Jail for the following charges: PC 207 Kidnapping, PC 215 Carjacking, PC 236 Human Trafficking, PC 261(a)(2) Rape, PC 220 (a)(1) Assault with intent to commit a felony, PC 287(a) Oral copulation by force or fear, PC 289 (a)(1)(A) Sexual penetration by force or fear, and PC 286(a)(2)(A) Sodomy.
