FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — One man is dead and a teen is injured following an apparent shootout in northwest Fresno.

On Sunday, February 25, police say an officer on patrol heard gunshots near the area of Ashlan and Fruit Avenues around 12:20 p.m. Sunday. They added they received multiple calls for a disturbance in the same area.

Officers arrived and located 38-year-old Deandre Jackson suffering from multiple gunshot
wounds. The victim was transported to CRMC for treatment, however he did not survive his
injuries.

At 12:45 pm, officers received another call of a shooting victim, this time in the 3100 block of
West Norwich Avenue. This victim was identified as a 16-year-old male.

He was transported to CRMC and is still listed in critical but stable condition.

Homicide detectives discovered that the shooting of the 16-year-old juvenile was related to the shooting on North Fruit Avenue.

Detectives learned that there was an argument in a parking lot involving several people
before the gunshots were fired.

Investigators say Jackson is the one who initiated the shootout with at least two men and a teenager who were inside a car. Investigators believe they may have known each other.

After the shooting occurred, the car fled the scene and dropped off the teen at a house near Marks and West Norwich avenues.

Police are still looking for the two men who dropped off the teenager. No description of their identities was given.

At this time, detectives are continuing to identify and interview witnesses.

They are also reviewing video surveillance from the area.

This was the 4th murder of 2024.
