CA Supreme Court: PG&E Can’t Be Sued Over Shutoffs

The California Supreme Court is handing a win to Pacific Gas & Electric. Justices ruled that customers cannot sue the utility over safety-related power shutoffs.

The unanimous decision cited the regulatory jurisdiction of the California Public Utilities Commission, adding that litigation would interfere with the agency’s authority.

PG&E recently emerged from bankruptcy after being saddled by billions of dollars in liabilities related to wildfires that were caused by company equipment.
