2 Inmates, 3 Nurses Taken To The Hospital Due To Fentanyl In Tulare County

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ) — A fentanyl overdose and exposure to it sends two inmates and three nurses from the Tulare County Jail to the hospital on Saturday.

According to detention deputies, the two inmates that were housed together were found suffering from a possible fentanyl overdose. They were given NARCAN and taken to the hospital.

But while the inmates were receiving that medical attention, three nurses that responded began showing signs of drug exposure.

One of them had to be given Narcan and all were also taken to the hospital.

They are expected to fully recover.

As for the inmates, Mykel Rhodes, 28, and Charles Herrington, 27, they are accused of ingesting the deadly drug. Both are facing additional charges due to this incident.

Detectives also discovered a third suspect, 45-year-old Jason Hounihan is accused of bringing the fentanyl inside the jail.
