GREENWOOD, Ind. (KMJ/AP) — Three people were killed, and two others hurt after a man with a rifle opened fire in an Indiana food court Sunday evening, Greenwood Police say.

Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison says an armed civilian who was in the crowd shot and killed the gunman.

Officers were called out to the Indianapolis suburb’s mall around 6:00 p.m. Chief Ison says the shooter, whose name has not yet been released, went into the mall with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition.

Authorities are still searching the mall to see if anyone else was hurt, but so far they think the shooting was isolated to the food court. They did take a backpack they found in a bathroom near the food court, which they believed was suspicious.

Assistant Police Chief Chris Bailey says there is no active threat to the area.

“We are sickened by yet another type of incident like this in our country,” said Bailey.
