(KMJ) – Republican gubernatorial recall candidate Larry Elder was met with curses and anger as he toured a homeless encampment Wednesday at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
While he was there, cameras caught a woman in a gorilla mask throwing an egg at Elder, narrowly missing him. And when a staffer confronted the woman, punches were thrown.
Due to safety concerns, Elder then cut his tour short and was escorted to an awaiting vehicle. He later tweeted that someone also fired a pellet gun at his security detail. The L.A.P.D confirms to KABC it is looking into a report that a driver and security team member for Elder were struck but not seriously injured around 10:45 a.m. on Melrose Avenue.
Elder then told L.A. media he was not concerned for his safety. Adding, “People are angry. People are furious. People are mentally ill. This problem needs to be fixed, and Gavin Newsom has made it worse.”
