Porterville Teen Killed by Drunk Driver With Prior DUI Offenses

(KMJ) – A 15-year old is struck and killed in Porterville by a hit-and-run driver who was also under the influence.

Porterville Police officers were called to the intersection of Olive Avenue and Westwood Street just before 7 p.m. Tuesday for reports of an injury traffic collision.  At the scene, officers say a driver struck and killed the teen and sped off.

Around  8:45 p.m., investigators tracked down the suspect’s vehicle parked on the 1700 block of West Olive Avenue.  That then lead officers to a home on 500 block of South Milo Street where they arrested 23-year old Harvey Jacobo.

Officers say he was intoxicated and has a suspended driver’s license due to prior DUI’s.  Jacobo was also required to operate a vehicle with an Ignition Interlock Device.

He was arrested without incident and booked at the Tulare County Sheriff’s South County Detention Facility.  Jacobo was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Hit and Run Causing Death, and Driving on Suspended Driver’s License.  He is now being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
