Suspects Lead Sheriff’s Deputies on High-Speed Fresno County Chase

(KMJ) – Two suspects lead Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen pick-up truck.

And the Sheriff’s Office put out this news release detailing Thursday’s chase:

Thursday morning, a farmer in the Sanger area made a report to the California Highway Patrol that his pickup truck had been stolen. Later in the day, an employee of the farmer’s spotted the truck driving through Sanger.

Around 4:30 pm, a sheriff’s detective headed to the area and found the truck driving on a street.  He then requested marked patrol cars to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. A marked patrol unit arrived and attempted to pull over the driver but the man refused to stop.

Sanger Police officers also began to follow the suspect.  But when the sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, arrived overhead, patrol cars backed out of the pursuit. Once the suspect got out of the city, deputies say he began to drive at high speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

Once the suspect reached the area of East Adams and South Newmark, he drove into a large dry ditch, disabling the truck. The man and woman in the truck tried to run away, but stopped a short distance away due to injuries they had suffered. They were arrested and will be booked into the Fresno County Jail.  But their names have yet to be released.
