Rotary: Help Needed For Fallen Porterville Firefighters, Memorial Planned

TULARE, CA (KMJ) – Funeral services have now been announced for Porterville Firefighter Patrick Jones, with a call for assistance from the Rotary Club for a memorial on Friday.

Firefighter Patrick Jones was killed along with Porterville Fire Captain Ray Figueroa in the Porterville Library fire on Tuesday, Feb. 18th.

Both men died when they were the first firefighters to enter the burning building to make sure no one was still inside.

 

Services for Patrick Jones will take place Thursday, Feb. 27th, at Tulare United Methodist Church, located at 228 W Kern Ave. in Tulare.

The service will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Captain Figueroa was laid to rest on Tuesday, Feb. 25th at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Parish, on 916 Lexington St. in Delano.

The Porterville Fire Department is organizing a joint memorial service for Captain Ray Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones on Friday, Feb. 28th.

Friday’s joint memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Porterville Church of the Nazarene, located at 2005 W Olive Ave. in Porterville.

Families have requested uniform personnel to arrive at 9:00 a.m. in their department class a uniform.

 

The Porterville Rotary is putting together a breakfast “to thank those that were there on Tuesday and those that put their lives on the line every day.”

Porterville Breakfast Rotary will feed them immediately after the memorial and have learned there may be up to 1500 attending. The cost will now exceed $12,000. “With that said, we are reaching out to the other clubs within our District for help. We are asking for a financial donation to help cover the cost of the meals, location rental, etc. We have one caterer volunteering his time to cook, and we’re working closely with the Fire Logistic Planning Team for the memorial. We are asking for additional financial assistance to help defer the cost of this event.
