(KMJ) – On December 27, 2018, Rocky Jones of Farmersville was shot and killed outside a convenience store in Visalia.

Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputies say the man who gunned him down, Gustavo Garcia-Ruiz, was an illegal immigrant with a past history of violence who had been deported twice before.  But, due to California’s sanctuary state policy, he was released from jail following an arrest earlier that month on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Tuesday Night, Rocky’s brother Jody was invited to attended President Trump’s State of the Union Address as one of his 11 guests in the House Chamber.

Here is the transcript of President Trump’s remarks to Jody Jones and his family:

“Jody, our hearts weep for your loss, and we will not rest until you have justice.

Senator Thom Tillis has introduced legislation to allow Americans like Jody to sue sanctuary cities and states when a loved one is hurt or killed as a result of these deadly practices.

I ask Congress to pass the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act immediately. The United States of America should be a sanctuary for law-abiding Americans, not criminal aliens.”
