CA Senate Democrats Kill Sex Ed Permission Bill

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Democrats in the California Senate have blocked a controversial bill, which sought to require that parents sign permission slips, for kids between kindergarten and 6th grade to receive sexual education.

Under the California Healthy Youth Act, students automatically attend sex ed classes at some point, unless parents opt them out.

The failed proposal sought to reverse that policy.

Opponents say too many parents are afraid to discuss sex with their children, thus placing the burden on public educators.
