FRESNO,CA (KMJ) – Governor Gavin Newsom today blocked the release of David Weidert.
He was convicted for the 1980 murder of 20 year-old developmentally disabled man from Clovis.
Mike Morganti was beaten, stabbed then forced to dig his own grave before being buried alive.
Fresno district attorney Lisa Smittcamp lobbied for Weidert to remain in prison.
She says legislation that allows Weidert to be considered for release again in a year needs to be changed.
