Fresno Police Officer Beaten During Arrest of Suspected Prostitute

(KMJ) –  A female Fresno Police officer continues to recover after “fighting for her life” during at attempted arrest Tuesday night in the West Central part of the city.

The officer reportedly contacted 22-year old Dontrea Castro around 5 p.m. in front of an Inn on Parkway north of Belmont after suspecting she was a sex worker.  But during her arrest, investigators say Castro punched the officer, pulled her hair, and knocked her equipment to the ground.

The officer fired a warning shot into the air in an attempt to stop Castro, which did not work.  She was then subdued and taken into custody after additional officers arrived.  She was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and prostitution.

The female officer, who is a seven year veteran with Fresno Police, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Her name has not been released, but she is said to be shaken up but in good condition.
