Arrest Made in 2013 Reedley Cold Case Murder

(KMJ) –  Thanks to the work of a retired Fresno County Sheriff’s detective, an arrest has now been made in a six-year old Valley cold case.

On October 27, 2013, a pair of robbers opened fire inside a home on the 6000 block of South Wakefield in Reedley.  Deputies say they sought the pounds of processed marijuana inside the house.  That shoot claimed the life of 28-year old Israel Gomez, Jr.

Recently a retired Sheriff’s Detective who worked on the Homicide unit revisited this case.  The information he developed helped lead to identifying a suspect.  And, on August 30th, MAGEC (Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium) detectives tracked down and arrested 34-year old Rene Rodriguez in Monterey.

He now faces charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery.  His bail has been set at $3.25 million.
