6-Year Old Among The Three Killed In Gilroy Garlic Fest Shooting

(KMJ) – Law enforcement from Gilroy, Santa Clara County, the Bay area, and the ATF continue to investigate a shooting late Sunday afternoon at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

Maribel Romero tells Bay Area news stations her grandson, 6-year old Stephen Romero is one of the three left dead.  And, she adds, her daughter-in-law and the boy’s other grandmother are among the 15 wounded.

Gilroy Police Chief Scott Smithee says officers confronted the shooter withing a minute of shots being fired inside the Festival around 5:41 pm.    Officers then shot and killed the unidentified gunman.  But, investigators continue to search for a second suspect who they believe assisted the shooter by helping him avoid security and sneak into the festival through a fence.

And, Gilroy Police have set up two phone lines in the wake of this shooting.  They ask any witness with tips, photos or videos to call: (408) 846-0583. And say anyone looking to reunite with a loved one should call: (408) 846-0584.
