Arrest Made Following Fatal Stabbing in Mendota

(KMJ) – The Mendota Police Department calls in the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a weekend homicide.  Officers found the body of a man at a home on the 200 Block of Holmes Street around 6 p.m. Saturday.  They then requested Sheriff’s investigators to take over the case.

Deputies say not long after they arrived at the scene, tips began coming in as to the possible suspect involved.  They then tracked down 37-year old Rafael Rivas (pictured above) a short time later.  He was arrested and charged with murder.

He apparently lived with the victim, identified as 35-year old John Rangel at the home on Holmes Street, but investigators are still working to determine what lead up to this fatal stabbing.
